7 Warning Signs of a Sewer Line Problem
The sewer line carries all your wastewater out of the house. When it fails, the symptoms usually show up in several places at once.
Request a plumber1. Multiple slow drains
If the kitchen sink, shower and toilets are all slow together, the clog is probably in the main line, not in one fixture.
2. Gurgling sounds
Gurgling from drains or toilets when water runs elsewhere in the house suggests trapped air from a blockage.
3. Backups in the lowest drain
Water or sewage coming up in a tub, shower or floor drain when you run the washing machine is a classic main line symptom.
4. Sewage smell
Persistent sewage odor indoors or in the yard can mean a cracked or broken line.
5. Wet or lush patches in the yard
Soggy ground or unusually green grass over the sewer path can mean a leak.
6. Cracks or settling
Foundation cracks or sinking areas near the line can indicate soil movement around damaged pipe.
7. Frequent clogs
If a drain keeps clogging after being cleared, roots or a damaged section may be the cause. A camera inspection shows what is going on. See sewer line repair.
